Make your home sustainable, eco-friendly with these simple steps

Making a small contribution to make the environment last longer for the next generation is something that everyone could make beginning with the simple and mundane such as your choice earth-friendly containers.

To those who wanted to make a grander but achievable course of action for the environment, it all starts at home—that is the structure of your home, its location and your choice of materials.

According to Pacifica Homes Development Corporation (PHDC) President and CEO, Mr. Oscar Pobre, sustainable homes could lower the cost of running the household: It saves on energy, water and monthly maintenance fees.

“But the essence here is you make a healthier lifestyle for your family and yourself,” notes Mr. Pobre.

How do you make a sustainable home for yourself and family?

Mr. Pobre notes that this starts with the retrofitting of high-performance materials that lasts longer and wastes are eliminated.

Starting with the basic home architectural design and location, an efficient home optimizes the presence of natural light for energy and other resources especially of water and the sewerage system.

The PHDC president adds that those planning to own and built a home in the near future must consider the building design, the materials and the methods for construction; the insulation; the size of the windows; heat and ventilation; lighting and plumbing fixtures; and even the appliances and home fixtures that include your kitchen cabinets, sofa, and even the dining table and chairs.

“This entails careful and systematic planning on the part of the future homeowner,” notes Mr. Pobre.

Other key considerations for your sustainable home are the location, the accessibility to schools, hospitals, key government offices and commercial areas for supply runs.

First-time or second-time homebuyers are urged to consider the developers’ project plans, beginning with the high ceilings and the windows width and height for more ventilation and energy-efficient home.

As a long-term and valuable investment, these are the primary considerations of future homeowners belonging to the millennial generation, according to Mr. Pobre.

“As responsible contractors and developers, we must all be inclined to what the residents’ need for a more comfortable and sustainable living,” he shares.

It is for this reason that Pacifica Homes Development Corporation (PHDC), the real estate arm of the Century Pacific Group, Inc., has taken up the challenge to provide sustainable yet affordable homes in a suburban setting.

Pacifica Homes launched its first affordable suburban housing project – the Hamana Homes in Magalang, Pampanga. Hamana Homes is a 15-hectare mixed-use development with an open, sprawling residential area tied to commercial spaces and a transport terminal to cater to its residents’ needs.
